On Saturday, June 11 (Free Fishing Day in California), the Alpine County Chamber of Commerce and the Alpine County Fish and Game Commission will jointly sponsor an annual kids' fishing derby at Indian Creek Reservoir, Calif.
That reservoir is located between Woodfords and Markleeville, just off of S.R.'s 4 and 89, near the Alpine County Airport.
The derby, which is free to the youngsters, will begin at 9 a.m. and run until about 1 p.m. The sponsors are anticipating about 70-80 youngsters in the derby.
Children, up to and including 15-year-olds, be allowed to compete in the derby. There will be fishing poles provided for those who do not have them.
A free lunch of hot-dogs and soda pop will be provided for all of the contestants.
There will be a large number of nice prizes provided for all of the children.
There is a need for adult volunteers to help with the derby.
For information, call Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station at Woodfords, Calif. at (530) 694-2930.
