Central Lyon County youth won't be able to complain about being bored this summer if they head to Adventure Camp.

Several day camps are offered by the Central Lyon County Parks and Recreation Department that will take campers to interesting places in the region during weekly field trips, where they can learn as well as have fun.

Among the experiences awaiting them are visits to the petroglyphs, Lake Tahoe and Spooner Lake. They will see "Beakman's World," an exhibit at the Wilbur D. May Center at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno, where they will also visit the Great Basin Adventure.

Also planned are trips to learn how sails are made for World Cup yachts, see how pickles are grown and even make adobe bricks to help rebuild Fort Churchill.

If that's not enough, there also will be regular summer activities such as water slides, swimming, arts and crafts and food.

The camp is for children 5-12 from Mound House, Dayton, Stagecoach, Silver Springs and Fernley and runs from Monday through Friday for 11 weeks, beginning June 13, 2005.

The times vary depending on the location.

The cost is $55 for three days per week or $70 for five days per week, with extra costs for some activities.

The camps are staffed by parks and recreation employees and there will be one camp in each community. Most will meet at local elementary schools.

For information, Dayton or Mound House parents should call 246-3192 or 246-7266; Silver Springs parents should call 577-5055; Fernley parents should call 575-7740 or 575-3372.

Stagecoach parents may enroll their children in either Dayton or Silver Springs camps. Additional information is available at the Parks and Recreation Department at 246-6227.
