Dahl now with 49ers

Sometimes, a career move may be a blessing disguise.

That's what Fallon's Harvey Dahl hopes.

Dallas had signed the former Greenwave and University of Nevada football standout as a rookie free agent after the NFL draft. He even attended the Cowboys' rookie mini-camp last month.

In a move to trim its roster, the Cowboys, however, released Dahl and six others one week ago. The Cowboys public relations department said there was no information available surrounding any of the players who were released on June 3.

"There was no specifics released surrounding any of those players who were let go that day," said Rick Dalrymple, director of public relations.

Nancy Dahl, Harvey's mother, said Thursday she heard the Cowboys were too deep on the offensive line and that's why they released the extra linemen.

Harvey Dahl didn't have too much time to sit home and ponder his future.

The 49ers were the first team to claim the Fallon native off waivers this week, and he took a physical Thursday. Nancy Dahl said the 49ers are looking to strengthen its offensive line, and the former Wolf Pack offensive tackle might be the right man for the job.

Reno-based sports agent Jim Grogan, who represents Dahl and several other rookies, said the 49ers had expressed interest in Dahl even before the April draft.

"He was high on their list," Grogan said.

San Francisco was one of several teams that scouted Nevada players in March at the University of Nevada. Grogan said their attendance at Pro Day may have helped Dahl's chances with the 49ers.

The roster moves coming out of Dallas didn't surprise Grogan.

"Dallas made some changes with personnel," Grogan said.

Those changes left Dahl and several others without a team. After assessing Dahl's status with San Francisco, Grogan feels the 49ers may provide some better opportunities for Dahl.

"The 49ers have more of a mobile offensive line," Grogan pointed out.

Providing the two-time first team all-league tackle passes his physical, Nancy Dahl said her son will join the club next week to begin work in the team's offseason program.

Harvey Dahl felt good about the physical and workout, although he didn't know the results of the tests late Thursday.

"I'll have two weeks of workouts," he said from San Francisco, explaining that he will be involved with weight training and agility drills.

From there, he hopes the 49ers will invite him back to their camp which opens in July.
