Second body found at Lake Lahontan

A body found Friday at Lake Lahontan could be a person witnesses saw drowning May 30.

Lyon County Sheriff's Detective Rob Hall said the unidentified adult, male body between the ages of 17 and 30 was found by Department of Wildlife officers about 12:30 p.m. near the shore of Beach 9.

"We don't know who he is at this point, but we did have some individuals come forward and say they hadn't seen their friend in a few days," he said. "If this is not that person, then we haven't got a clue about who it is."

Hall said the friend was seen at Lahontan during Memorial Day weekend.

According to witnesses on Beach 7, a man was heard yelling for help and struggling in the water some 250 yards from shore about 5:30 a.m.

When the campers reached the area by boat, they could not find the person, said Capt. Jeff Page.

Page said it's possible the man was connected to the theft of Jet Skis earlier that morning.

Identification of the body, clothed only in boxer briefs, will be made through dental records. The cause of death will be determined through an autopsy next week, Hall said.

The discovery confirms the death of a second person apparently over the Memorial Day weekend at Lahontan State Park, Lake Lahontan.

On May 28, Tim Easley, 21, of Virginia City, drowned after jumping from a boat into the water near Beach 6. His body was recovered Monday.
