Tigersharks' Abby Niehoff, Cody Gillenwater win trophies

Abby Niehoff returned home with the high point trophy and Cody Gillenwater with the high point runner-up trophy for the Carson Tigersharks as the Reno Gamble long course swimming meet came to an end on Sunday at Idlewild Park in Reno.


Niehoff logged first-place finishes in the 13-14 year old girls age group 50- and 1,500-meter freestyle to go with second-place in the 100 butterfly to clinch her high point trophy championship. Niehoff finished the 1,500 freestyle in a time of 18 minutes, 46.40 seconds and sprinted to a 29.94 in the 50.


Meanwhile, Gillenwater swam the 1,500 for the first time and captured first-place in his 11-12 boys age group with a time of 21:54.25. He also took fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:32.82) en route to his runner-up finish in the 11-12 boys high point trophy race.


Other Tigersharks turned in strong performances in the 1,500 freestyle, including Kevin Dyer with a swim of 17:56.65 for first-place in the 13-14 boys age group. Barbara Perkins placed second in the 15-18 girls division (19:28.39), Samantha Ashmore fifth (20:38.55), Hilary Schlager sixth (20:48.53) and Danielle Judge seventh (22:05.73).Tatum Boehnke placed third in the 13-14 girls division (20:19.86) and Julie Asire fifth (21:49.28). Nick Schlager also placed third in the 11-12 boys age group (22:10.92).


Dyer rounded out a busy day with fourth-place finishes in the 100 butterfly (1:12.54) and 50 freestyle (28.88) as well as seventh-place in the 200 individual medley (2:39.82).


Michaela Gillenwater swam to first-place in the 9-10 girls 200 I.M. in 3:11.49.


Judge placed second in the 15-18 girls 100 butterfly (1:21.66) and Rebekah Niehoff was third (1:23.72). Ashmore also placed fourth in her 50 freestyle flight (32.50), Judge took eighth (33.12) and Perkins 10th (33.17).


Samantha MacCarty placed 20th in her flight of the 13-14 girls in the 50 freestyle (41.61).
