Carson High graduate Tony Teixeira will sign a letter of intent to play baseball at Central Methodist University, an NAIA school in Missouri.
Teixeira, a 2003 CHS graduate, will join former Senators and Cerro Coso College teammate, Rodney Black at Central Methodist. Teixeira is a catcher and infielder while Black is an infielder. Black, a 2002 CHS graduate who earned all-conference second team honors this year, signed with Central Methodist earlier this spring.
CARDINALS FALL
A short-handed Carson Cardinals baseball team fell to the Reno Muckdogs 6-3 on Monday at Ron McNutt Field.
The Cardinals were playing without much of their lineup, including Royal Good, Kevin Schlange, Logan Parsley and Brooks Greenlee, who were all playing in the Kelley Baseball Showcase later in the evening. Among others missing were Jack Jaquet and Jeremiah Teeter, who were playing basketball.
Nick Smallman allowed two earned runs over six innings for the Cardinals. After allowing three runs in the seventh, Tony Fagan settled down to retire the last eight batters he faced, striking out six over the last three innings.
The Cardinals tied the score 1-1 in the third inning when T.J. Hein singled and advanced to second on an overthrow. He advanced to third on Ed Lovelace's sacrifice bunt and scored on a wild pitch.
In the fourth with the bases loaded and two outs, Smallman hit a batter with an 0-2 curveball to force in a run, giving the Muckdogs a 2-1 lead. In the fifth, Carson High graduate Adam Anderson's RBI single gave the Muckdogs a 3-1 lead.
Anderson added an RBI sacrifice fly in the seventh during a three-run rally that gave the Muckdogs a 6-1 lead. The Cardinals scored two runs on four errors in the bottom of the seventh to finish the scoring.
Chris Ames, Lovelace and David Leid all added a hit for the Cardinals. Galena's Shane Kockenmeister had two hits and Galena's Andrew Ferguson added a hit for the Muckdogs.
The two teams play again today at 4 p.m. at McNutt Field.
COYOTES SPLIT
The Carson Coyotes Senior Babe Ruth baseball team came away with a split on Sunday against the Dayton Bombers in Dayton, losing the opener 2-0 before coming back to win the nightcap 7-5.
Jason Alcasas was the tough luck loser for the Coyotes, striking out 11 over six innings. Dayton broke through to score two runs in the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie.
Ricky Adams went 2-for-3 with a double, Alcasas tripled and Christian Volker, Alex Tanchek, Derek Giurlani and Kyle Petterson all added a hit for the Coyotes.
In the nightcap, Ricky Adams pitched six scoreless innings before tiring in the seventh when the Bombers scored five runs. Adams struck out six. Dan Ford came in to record the last out to pick up the save.
Tanchek hit a two-run home run in the first, Ford belted a two-run double and A.J. James had a two-run single in the second and Alcasas had an RBI single in the fourth that made it 7-0.
Adams had two hits, Tanchek with 2-for-3 with his other hit being a double, Alcasas was 3-for-4, A.J. James went 2-for-4 and Volker added a hit apiece.
