A Carson City man was arrested Thursday after the driver of the car he was in allegedly led police on a chase through two counties before wrecking his vehicle in a ditch.
Ricky Medrano, 25, was booked into the Carson City Jail on warrants for contempt court and failure to appear and new charges of felony possession of methamphetamine and hit and run. His bail is set at $6,000.
According to Sgt. Dan Britton of the Douglas County Sheriff's Department, investigators spotted Medrano, a "known fugitive," riding in a Dodge Durango in North Douglas County. When police tried to stop the vehicle, driver Omar Fonseca, 25, of Sparks, allegedly accelerated. The chase advanced into Carson City where sheriff's deputies joined.
On Hell's Bell's Road in east Carson City, Fonesca allegedly wrecked his vehicle and fled on foot. He was captured shortly thereafter hiding in the sagebrush, Britton said.
Fonesca is being held in the Carson City Jail without bail on suspicion of felony eluding a police officer, driving without a license, and two warrants of felony felon failure to register and felon in possession of a firearm.
