The owner of the Carson City Super 8 Motel hopes to expand into the residential market by building a 24-unit apartment complex at Sonoma and South Carson streets.
Owner Jasbir Sandhu's two-acre parcel is zoned for commercial, which means he would have to file for a special-use permit application and then go to a public hearing. His Las Vegas engineer said that could be in August or September.
He said Tuesday that the project could cost up to $2.5 million and includes a three-story apartment building, a coin laundry and convenience store.
"We'd love to have more opportunities in the city to serve the people," he said.
His plans are to build 1,000-square-foot two-bedroom apartments on the south side of Sonoma Street on the east end of his parcel, which also includes the motel at 2829 S. Carson St.
