Dorothy F. Lusty, 78, a Carson City resident since 1992, died June 25, 2005, at home.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City.
Mrs. Lusty was born June 24, 1927, to Harold C. and Mabel Lusty in Evanston, Wyo.
She was a teacher and life member of Wyoming Teachers Association; was a teacher at Western Nevada Community College, retiring in 1995; and received the National Teachers Award in 1986 in Washington, D.C.
She was a supporter of animal-rights organizations.
She was an artist, winning competitions for her ceramic art; crocheted and donated afghans for children in need; was a docent at the Nevada State Museum; was an active member of the Carson City Senior Citizens Center; and was a member of First Baptist Church in Carson City.
She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her dog, Billie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George T. Schaechterle, in 1991.
Among her survivors are her son, Karl G. Schaechterle of Mountain Ranch, Calif.; daughters Frances S. Burt of Carson City and Kathleen Schaechterle of Sheridan, Wyo.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at Evanston City Cemetery in Evanston.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
