A Carson City man working on the construction of the freeway was injured Tuesday when he was run over by a front-end loader at Hot Springs Road and College Parkway.
Danny Knowlton, 59, was taken by helicopter to Washoe Medical Center about 6 p.m.
According to Carson City Sheriff's Deputy Mike Fischer, Shirley Pitcher, 54, of Carson City was driving the loader forward when Knowlton walked behind and knelt down.
"He crouched down and I guess was looking at the grade of the area they were leveling out," Fischer said. "His back was to the front loader."
Fischer said Pitcher put the vehicle in reverse, backed up running over Knowlton then pulled forward again.
"She was getting ready to back up again when someone on the radio started yelling 'Stop, stop!" Fischer said.
He said it appeared the 6-foot tall tires of the vehicle pinched Knowlton, but didn't go completely over him.
When rescuers arrived, he was conscious and alert, Fischer said.
Both Knowlton and Pitcher work for Ames Construction.
Knowlton's condition was unavailable Tuesday night.
