Potluck set before American Legion meeting March 10

The American Legion High Desert Post 56 and Auxiliary Unit 56 will meet at 7 p.m. March 10 at the Veterans Hall, corner of Second and Curry streets.

The meeting will be preceded by a potluck dinner with a silent auction fund-raiser after the meeting. All veterans and their guests are invited to attend. Cost is $5 per person; reservations may be made by contacting Ramona Long at 885-7585, or Blake Armstrong-Canyon at 841-1369.

Art and artists come to the Legislature

Art supporters from all areas of Nevada will celebrate the arts with members of the Legislature from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. March 10. They will sit with legislators during the floor sessions at 11 a.m., have a legislative luncheon at the Carson Nugget and a forum, What Up! at 3 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center.

Cost is $25 per person for Nevada Arts Association members, $30 for nonmembers and $35 per person at the door. For information call Monica Kales, 624-2026.

Week-long fun planned for preschoolers

Bring your preschool children to the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada from 8:30-11:30 a.m. March 7-11. There will be music, stories, arts and crafts all week. Healthy snacks will be provided.

Cost is $50 for members of the museum and $60 for nonmembers. Class size is limited to 10 and reservations are required.

Photography exhibit on the Great Basin

The photographs of naturalist Stephen Trimble will bring the "drama of the desert" to Carson City on Monday when the Nevada State Museum opens "The Sagebrush Ocean: A Naturalist's Vision of the Great Basin." This new exhibit at the Nevada State Museum features Trimble's photography based on years of hiking, backpacking and living out of his truck in the Basin. Sagebrush Ocean is scheduled from March 7-Aug. 21.

The exhibit's opening will unveil the museum's new 3,000-square-foot changing gallery - more than double the size of previous space for changing exhibits. The museum plans to use the space to host a series of future traveling exhibits from around the country as well as exhibits produced by the museum.

The museum at 600 N. Carson St. is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, and free for children under 18. For information, call (775) 687-4810.

Send submissions for Senior for a Day

Douglas County Nevada TRIAD is seeking submissions for their annual Senior for a Day celebration.

Two women and two men will be selected by a drawing on March 22. Entries may be submitted by anyone; the person must be age 65 or older to be eligible.

Entry forms are available at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville. The winners will receive a lunch of their choice at Country Club Restaurant, hair cut or styling, a basket of gifts and their picture in The Record-Courier. TRIAD will provide transportation to the restaurant.
