Assembly Speaker Richard Perkins, D-Henderson, Thursday introduced a bill that would implement full-day kindergarten in Nevada schools.

AB198 will be heard by the Assembly Education Committee March 14.

"There has been too much talk and not enough action when it comes to educating our students," said Perkins. "It is not a coincidence that the states with the best educational systems have full-day kindergarten."

Assembly Education Chairwoman Bonnie Parnell, D-Carson City, said the testimony on the pilot full-day kindergarten in Clark County was impressive.

"As a former middle school teacher, I believe strongly that our children must receive a solid foundation in the earliest years of their education if they are to succeed throughout their education," she said.
