It didn't take long for the Douglas softball team to work out some the frustration it has been dealing with since last May.

Just three days into the season, Douglas avenged a one-run loss to Centennial in the state championship game with an 8-1 victory over the Bulldogs in the Best of the West Tournament in Bullhead City, Ariz., Friday.

Senior Brittany Puzey picked up the win in the circle, allowing just two hits and one earned run while striking out eight and walking two.

Kayla Dunn went 3-for-3 with a double, Puzey added a double and freshman Lauren Hoppe and Jessie Kizer each collected two hits for the Tigers in the win.

Earlier in the day, Douglas defeated Silverado 9-3 as Dunn struck out eight and gave up just three hits in the win.

Hoppe, Kizer, Dunn and Val Smith all doubled in the win. Kizer collected two hits as well.

In Douglas' first game of the tournament, the Tigers dropped a 1-0 decision to Liberty High School out of the Bay Area, despite a dominated pitching performance by Kellei Kizer, who struck out nine and gave up only four hits. Amanda Running Wolf had a double in the game for the Tigers.
