Royston C. Waltemyer

A memorial service for Royston C. Waltemyer, 59, a Carson City-Dayton resident for the past 26 years, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Carson City with Pastor Bruce Kochsmeier and the Masons officiating.

Mr. Waltemyer died March 13, 2005, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born Sept. 7, 1945, in Galveston, Texas, to Royston C. and Eunice Taylor Waltemyer.

Before moving to this area, he lived in Houston.

He graduated from Houston Baptist University in 1977 with a bachelor's degree and from the University of Nevada, Reno with master's and education specialist degrees.

He married Roberta "Bobbie" Moore April 16, 1981, in Carson City.

Mr. Waltemyer taught at Mount Carmel in Houston, Carson Middle School, Carson High School and Western Nevada Community College. He was opening principal for Empire Elementary School, and he retired from the Carson City School District in 2000 after 22 years.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carson City, where he served as an elder and deacon and sang in the choir. He was president of the Community Concert Association. He loved all kinds of music and he loved teaching. He enjoyed fishing, the mountains and outdoors, reading and writing poetry.

He was a life member and past master of Carson Lodge 1; a member of Centennial Lodge 47; secretary of Nevada York Rite College 144; past high priest of Lewis Chapter 1 Royal Arch Masons; grand treasurer of Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons-State of Nevada; past Illustrious Master of Capitol Council 7, Cryptic Masons; Grand Treasurer of Grand Council Cryptic Masons State of Nevada; Knights of York Cross of Honior Prior 50; St. Matthais Tabernacle 57 Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priest and past commander E.C. Peterson No. 8 Knight Templans.

Among his survivors are his wife of Dayton; stepsons and their wives David and Dawn Berger of Carson City, Doug and Kani Berger of Lakewood, Calif. and Dan and Dennell Berger and Darin and Natalie Berger, all of Carson City; sisters Janet Mahan and Doris McCauley, both of Grandberry, Texas, and Gracie Cook and Martha Huff, both of Gilmer, Texas; grandchildren Nathen, Katie, Daniel, Deborah, Monika, Joshua and Samantha; aunt Vesper Layfield of Athens, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
