After allegedly hitting her husband, fighting with hospital staff, and trying to take the staples out of her head and smear blood on a security guard, a South Lake Tahoe woman was arrested at Carson-Tahoe Hospital early Saturday morning after a profanity-laced struggle in the emergency room.

According to police reports, deputies responded to a call for domestic violence at the hospital shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday after Katherine Elizabeth Hurwitz, 26, of South Lake Tahoe had allegedly struck her husband in the face.

When hospital staff tried to restrain her, she turned on them. At one point she made her head bleed by trying to take the staples out.

Hurwitz then allegedly started wiping the blood from her head onto a hospital security guard's right arm, hand and the side of his face.

She was finally restrained by police and physically escorted from the premises.

Hurwitz faces misdemeanor charges for domestic battery, battery, disorderly conduct and a felony charge for committing an "unlawful act related to human blood."

Bail was set at $9,691.

An investigation is under way.
