A graveside service for James Vog "Mr. Nice" Stewart, 73, a Carson City resident, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lone Mountain Cemetery.

Mr. Stewart died March 16, 2005, in Salt Lake City from complications of pneumonia.

He was born July 3, 1931, in Portland, Ore.

After graduating from Vancouver High School in 1949, he served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Upon discharge from the service, he obtained a bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Idaho, leading to a career as a test engineer for various defense contractors, working on projects such as the space shuttle, solar observatory satellites and the International Space Station. After his retirement, he moved to Carson City.

He enjoyed working on cars, bowling, shooting, playing cards, reading, watching football and his friends.

Among his survivors are daughter and son-in-law, Karla and Tim Meyn of Ridgecrest, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Allison of Riverton, Utah; and grandchildren Kady Meyn and Isaac, Ben, Kimberly and Timmo Stewart.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or the American Cancer Society.
