Even if clear weather were to prevail in the Carson City area the remainder of the week, Carson City Raceway at Fuji Park Promoter Jeb Onweiler said the track would still be too muddy for riders to demonstrate their sport.

"We can't in good faith ask our out-of-town racers to drive to Carson City with such questionable weather on the horizon," Onweiler said. "Because some of these guys are coming from Los Angeles and Colorado to support our media day, we had to make the call sooner than normal."

The open house, scheduled for Saturday, was an opportunity for the public and media to see what speedway racing is, and to meet the racers and watch demonstrations of various divisions scheduled to race there.

Racing venue includes American Motorcycle Association-sanctioned youth speedway, peewee speedway, pro speedway (divisions I, II and III), a pocket rocket series featuring pocket bikes, bicycle races and econobox drags.

A new KidsZone Klub has also been added to the family-oriented activities and will be under the direction of Chris Slabaugh. Presented by Fun Jumpers, "Earnhardt Memorial Park" will feature a supervised area for kids with econobox drags, bounce house, face painting, kiddy karaoke and more.

An assortment of food and beverages will be offered by Chris Wyatt, owner of Custom Catering.

Onweiler is seeking residents interested in learning to work positions at the arena. Officiating will initially be done by Fast Fridays' crew from Auburn, Calif., a track owned/operated by Dave Joiner.

Positions to become available are announcer, starter, pit steward, scoring, security, photographer, corner workers and parking attendants. For information, contact Onweiler at: CarsonCityRaceway@charter.net or call 882-2460.

The season is set to begin April 9 with pit gates opening at 5 p.m., main gate at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.
