The Dayton High softball team looked like it was on the way to splitting a doubleheader with Sparks, but ended up suffering a heartbreaking sweep.
Dayton lost the opener 2-0 and the nightcap 2-1. The Dust Devils led 1-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning in the second game, but Sparks rallied for two runs on the strength of an error, passed ball, double and another error on a bunt.
The Dust Devils took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Sara Simmons doubled and scored on Nicole Greer's double. Greer was the tough luck loser on the mound, pitching a two-hitter while striking out six. Lauren Fisher went 2-for-3 and Bailey Garcia added a hit for Dayton.
In the opener, Greer pitched a five-hitter and struck out 11. She also went 2-for-3 with a double. Simmons and Fisher each added a hit as well.
