John Earl Sutherland, 90, a Carson City resident for many years, died May 2, 2005, at home. He was born May 19, 1914, in Las Vegas, N.M., to George and Mae Irene Sutherland.
He married Bea Wilson in 1939.
Mr. Sutherland was an equipment superintendent in construction. He worked on jobs around the world, including large dams in 11 Western states. He was active in the Tahoe Rim Trail/Tahoe Hardrockers Project from 1987 through 2001, and received a national award for his service.
He enjoyed nature, fishing, reading and family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife and sisters Dorothy and Ester.
Among his survivors are his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Sharon of Belgrade, Mont.; nephews Jerry Reynolds of Colorado and Jack Gipe of California; and friends/caregivers Gary and Lyndell Murphy of Carson City.
No service will be held.
