Summer food program set by Washoe Tribe
The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California announces sponsorship of the summer food service program. Lunches and snacks will be served to all children ages 1 through 18 free of charge. Acceptance and participation requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, gender or disability and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.
The program will begin June 20 and end Aug. 26. Lunch will be served from noon-1 p.m. and snacks will be served from 3-4 p.m. weekdays. Locations are:

Volunteers needed to serve on Carson City Planning Commission
The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from persons interested in serving for 10 to 16 hours a month on the Carson City Planning Commission. This commission oversees all matters pertaining to Carson City's development, land uses and growth. Meetings are the last Wednesday of every month at 3:30 p.m. There are two openings for four-year terms, expiring June 2009. Applicants must be a resident and registered voter of Carson City. Applications must be submitted by June 3.

Seminar on growing roses in Nevada on tap
Greenhouse Garden Center will present a free one-hour seminar, "Growing Roses in Nevada," at 11 a.m. Saturday. Learn about the best varieties for our climate and how to locate and prepare a planting area. Additional topics include pruning, pests, watering, and spraying roses. Call 882-8600.

The Central Lyon County Vector Control District, formed 1996, is a general improvement district established to control mosquitoes and gnats (black flies) along the Highway 50 corridor - including the communities of Mound House, Dayton, Stagecoach and Silver Springs.

Open burning within Central Lyon County will close May 22. After that date, no burning will be allowed, even with a burn permit.
