Two men who reportedly fled from authorities Tuesday after the car they were in was recognized as stolen were identified by Douglas County Sheriff's Department as John Nugent and Sean McElroen.
The two men were in a 1999 Honda Civic and were reported to be driving recklessly on Spooner Summit. The car, reported stolen out of El Dorado County, was spotted by a deputy on Highway 50 near Cave Rock.
The two occupants fled and hid at a house under construction after crashing the car on a curve at Lakeridge, authorities said.
Nugent, the 24-year-old driver from Pollack Pines, was charged on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless driving, obstructing an officer, possession of burglary tools, hit and run, failure to make known a traffic accident and speeding.
He was booked into Douglas County Jail at $39,355 bail.
McElroen, 22, from Placerville, was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of burglary tools and obstructing an officer. His bail was $10,000 at Douglas County Jail.
