Carson boys swimming beats McQueen

The Carson High boys swim team warmed up for the Northern 4A Championships with a convincing 170-102 win over McQueen on Saturday in Reno.


Carson's girls fell to McQueen 191-110. For the boys, John Wandel, Garrett Clayton, Sam Forbes and Andrew Cardinal won the 200-yard medley relay and Carson also went 1-2-3-4 in the 200 freestyle with Matt Grunert first, Forbes second, Aaron Murakami third and Jess Shobert fourth. In addtion, the Senators went 1-2-3-4 in the 100 free with John Wandel first, Cardinal second, Kellen Dale third and Ian Murdock fourth.


Carson went 1-2 in the 200 individual medley with Cardinal first and Sam Ballard second and 1-2 in the 100 butterfly with Forbes first and Ballard second. Carson went 1-2 in the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke as well. John Wandel won the back with Ian Murdock second and Grunert won the breaststroke with Clayton second.


Scott Wandel also won the 500 free. Kellen Dale, Scott Wandel, Cardinal and Grunert won the 200 free relay and Carson went 1-2 in the 400 free relay. Grunert, Scott and John Wandel and Forbes were first while Ballard, Murakami, Murdock and Clayton were second.


Jamie Engan's time of 54.60 seconds to win the 100 free was the highlight for Carson's girls. Carson also went 1-2 in the 500 free with Engan first and Barbara Perkins second.


Hannah Nystrom help Carson to second in the 200 medley relay, Katie Wandel was second in the 50 free, Engan, Wandel Rebekah Niehoff and Jessica Goddard took second in the 200 free relay, Perkins was second in the 100 back, Engan, Wandel, Niehoff and Goddard were second in the 400 free relay and Rachel Neitzke took second in diving.
