S&S Motorsports make it two-for-two in SRL

S&S Motorsports of Carson City is two-for-two as driver Troy Regier of Dinuba, Calif. won the Vukovich Memorial at Madera (Calif.) Speedway on Saturday night.

Jim Tartaglia finished second with Jeff Russell, Mike McCann and A.J. Russell rounding out the top-five.

The team won the season opener at Tucson Raceway Park in Tucson, Ariz., on April 9.

"It was a pretty good win," said team co-owner Steve Shaw. "It was a pretty good domination."

Regier posted fast time in qualifying and for the Vukovich Memorial, a trophy dash was held. Trophy dashes are not a regular part of the SRL.

"Troy won the trophy dash; started third row outside for his heat race, and won it. Then pulled a 10-car invert for the main event," Shaw said.

Tom Silsby, co-owner of S&S Motorsports, said 14 cars made the field for the Madera race. Even after winning in Tucson, the team said there were still a few bugs to work out with the new motor and car set-up.

"Troy came with his game face on," Shaw said. "He was pretty demanding of us in what he wanted from the car. He made sure we had what he wanted.

"Madera is his home track. This is where he began racing. And there were a lot of (his) fans there to see him race. It was an enthusiastic crowd."

"I'd say we got the bugs worked out," Silsby added.

The team's motor builder, Tom Reitz of Fresno, was on hand to see his expertise put to the test.

"We really want to thank Tom Reitz, Ron Burdg of Sierra Racing Products, Mr. Gasket, and our crew - John Steward, Rick Barba and Ed Silsby. And of course Troy for doing his thing."

Regier started 10th in the 40-lap main event. Shaw said Regier came up to the leader, Jim Tartaglia about 16-17 laps into the race.

"Jimmy's pretty hard to pass," Shaw said. "But Troy was patient and very fast, even in traffic.

"It took a few laps, but Troy passed him on lap 20 and just went on to win. He had a plan coming into this race and he went there to do it."

The win gives Regier a total of 52 supermodified wins in his career. The league next heads to Meridian Speedway in Meridian, Idaho June 3-4.

S&S Motorsports is the points leader for owners Shaw and Silsby; Regier is on top in drivers points.
