Verizon Wireless customers in Churchill County may gain stronger cellular reception following discussion of additional towers at a Churchill County Planning Commission meeting last week.
The Churchill County Planning Commission reviewed applications for special-use permits for four, 120-foot cellular towers Verizon Wireless plans to erect.
Permits were approved for two proposed towers, while permits for the other two towers were tabled until next month.
Verizon representative George Cleveland said the towers would be part of Verizon's new network in Northern Nevada and would be constructed simultaneously, possibly this summer. Each tower could hold equipment for two more cellular transmitters.
CC Communications Cellular Manager Mike Harmon, a cellular competitor, over the location of the two tabled towers, questioned the positioning of the two towers due to the proximity to CC Communications facilities.
Harmon also questioned the merits and disadvantages of placing a Verizon transmitter on a CC Communications tower.
