A 21-year-old man was shot twice in the calf with what appears to be pellets Tuesday as he walked near Sierra Circle and West Long Street.

Detective Don White said the victim, who moved here two weeks ago, had his back to the wind lighting a cigarette under his T-shirt about 3:30 p.m. when he felt a burning sensation in his leg. He drove himself to the hospital where he was treated and released. The pellets were not removed, White said.

A canvass of the neighborhood by deputies turned up no clues. The victim said just before he felt the pain in his leg, an eastbound black SUV passed him on Long Street.

"No one saw or heard anything," White said.
