Cancer Center to benefit from raffle of Harley Sportster

Harley-Davidson Financial Services has donated a Limited Edition 2005 Sportster XL 1200C to benefit the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. Raffle tickets are $20 and all proceeds from the raffle go to the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. The drawing for the Harley-Davidson will be Nov. 12 at the community open house for the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. The motorcycle is on display at Sharkey's Casino in Gardnerville.

Raffle tickets may be purchased at the following locations: Sharkey's Casino, Carson Valley Golf Course, Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce, Carson-Tahoe Hospital Cancer Resource Center and the Carson-Tahoe Hospital Gift Shop.

Sertoma Golf Tournament in Dayton today

Carson City Sertoma annual charity Golf Tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. today with a shotgun start at Dayton Valley Golf Club.

Donation is $100 per player and includes cart, barbecue, tee prizes and other prizes; proceeds to speech- and hearing-impaired children.

Nevada Singles will plan events at lunch

Nevada Singles is having a "Dutch treat" Event Planning luncheon will be at 1 p.m. today at Grandma Hattie's.

A members-only Potluck Picnic in the Park is May 29 at Bowers Mansion in Washoe Valley.

Elks pancake breakfast and bingo

Minden-Douglas Elks Lodge 2670 will hold its monthly Pancake Breakfast May 22. Breakfast will be served from 9 a.m.-noon with bingo to follow at 12:01 p.m. The lodge is at 1276 Pit Road in the Gardnerville Ranchos, off Tilman and Kimmerling roads. The public is invited.

The menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, juice and coffee. The cost is $4 for adults and $2 for children under 12.

Elks bingo features a $250 progressive jackpot that increases $50 each month until won. Popcorn is free. Hot dogs and beverages are available to purchase.

Trail Trials with obstacles today

Nevada All State Trail Riders will sponsor two Trail Trials in 2005. The first Trial will be at Washoe Lake State Park at 11 a.m. today. The Trial will feature a variety of obstacles scattered around the park. The ride length will be approximately eight miles with eight to 10 obstacles. Performance of each horse and rider team will be monitored by a trail judge and scored on a point system. Obstacles will be the type of items horses normally negotiate on urban trails, as well as those found out in the natural landscape.

The entry fee will be $30 for adults, $20 for children 16 and under. Helmets will be required for junior riders. There will be awards for all participants.

The money raised by the Trial will be used for improvements to the equestrian area of Washoe Lake State Park. The second Trail Trial is Sept. 25. The proceeds from that trial will be used by Nevada All State Trail Riders for local backcountry trail projects.
