Crosstumblers Gymnasts continued their winning streak at a dual competition against Redwood Coast Gymnastics held recently in Eureka, Calif.
While only four members of the USAIGC optional girls team made the trip, the gymnasts did quite well, improving their scores from the week before.
Thirteen-year-old Sarah Melia took top honors in the Bronze optional division. Her all-around score of 35.95 was the highest in the entire meet. Melia also took first on vault (9.3), second on balance beam (9.05) and floor exercise (9.2) and fifth on uneven bars (8.4).
Teammate Kayla Skog took the floor title with a score of 9.25 after a beautiful routine set to an excerpt from the musical "Cats."
"Kayla has a gorgeous stage presence and incredible flexibility. With her maturity and impressive dance skills, the routine is quite impressive to watch," coach Steffany Walker said. Skog also placed fourth on beam (8.4) and fifth in the all-around (34.45).
Katie Welton also did quite well, improving her all-around score by over three points from the previous week to place second with a 35.35. Welton also placed second on bars (8.8) and third on vault (8.8) and beam (8.95).
