Carson City

Water restrictions begin for Carson residents today

Water restrictions are in effect for Carson City from today until Oct. 1.

Those with odd-numbered addresses can water their lawns before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and people with even-numbered addresses will be allotted Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All outside watering is prohibited on Mondays.

Prospective Master Gardeners meeting today for orientation

Sign ups are being taken for the fall Master Gardener training program, offered by University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Sept. 6 Ð Oct. 26, 6:30 Ð 9:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays. There is an orientation meeting for those interested at 6 p.m. today. Both the training and the orientation are held at the Carson City Cooperative Extension office, 2621 Northgate Lane, Suite 12.

Library hosts Breakfast for Books

Carson City Library's annual Kiwanis/SlotWorld Breakfast for Books will be from 7:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday on the library lawn.

Tickets for the breakfast can be purchased in advance at the Carson City Library Youth Desk. Overdue fines can be waived with purchase of an adult or family ticket. Inquire about having fines waived at the Information Desk.

Prices are $6 for adults, $3 for kids and $15 for families.

On the menu will be pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice and coffee served hot by Kiwanis of Carson City. Entertainment for children includes face painting and medieval role playing and combat by Amtgard. The Friends of the Carson City will host a book sale. Proceeds from the breakfast will be donated to the library by Kiwanis. This event is sponsored by Kiwanis of Carson City, SlotWorld Casino, and the Friends of the Carson City Library.

Win a 4-by-4 at Chamber Golf Tourney

The 60th Anniversary Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament and Carson Valley Chevrolet and Buick of Minden have announced a very special Hole-In-One Prize Package for the event on Friday at the Carson Valley Golf Course.

The first golfer to score an ace on hole No. 17 will win a brand-new 2005 Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab 4-by-4 valued at more than $28,000. There will also be prizes for a hole-in-one on the remaining par 3's including golf vacations in Puerto Rico, 36 dozen Nike golf balls or a Nike Ignite Driver.

Entry fee is $85 per player and includes lunch at Carson Valley Country Club, collectors edition 60th anniversary shirt, raffle prizes and awards for low score, high score and longest drive.

The tournament, using a four-person scramble format, begins at 8:30 a.m. Proceeds will benefit the Chamber of Commerce to expand programs, benefits and services for the local business community.
