Eastern Brook trout are running 17-18 inches long at Kirman

LAKE ALMANOR, CALIF: Doug Ouellette reported fishing well for Smallmouth Bass on worms. Very first thing in the morning is best for fly fishing. If the wind is blowing, throw a white spinner with silver blades.

BISHOP CREEK AREA, CALIF: Patti Apted of the Lake Sabrina Boat Landing (760-873-7425) reported:

Sabrina Lake: The lake is on the rise and the fishing was great. The level of the lake is increasing about a foot or two a day. Fishing the inlet with Power Bait or worms is still the way to go. A 4.5 pound rainbow and a 3 pound rainbow.

BLUE LAKES, NEV: The 2005 season will open on June 11.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: Rick Giser of Ken's Sporting Goods Store (760-932-7707): "Bridgeport has been really good for boats trolling or stillfishing. The trollers are using blades and nightcrawlers or Rapala lures. The still fishermen are using nightcrawlers or Power Bait. They are catching rainbows, up to 4 pounds.

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported excellent fishing at the dam with limits being taken on worms or Power Bait. The lake still has ice on it.

CARSON RIVERS, CALIF:

East Carson River: Brad Davis at the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229) reported: The river is high and muddy but it is actually coming down about a foot every day. Tom Daly of Placerville caught a 5 pounder, yesterday (Monday) on salmon eggs. Another angler reported catching a limit of rainbows.

West Carson River: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) reported: "All of the streams are very high and muddy. They are blown out, right now, with the runoff. I expect it to be this way through the whole month of June, because there is a ton of snow above 8,000 feet.

FEATHER RIVER AT ORVILLE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero reported: Water is at 2,500 CFS. Starting to see a few Kings arriving. Using Flatfish and bouncing roe. Watch for July to be prime time for big King Salmon.

HOBART RESERVOIR, NEV: All access by way of Ash Canyon is restricted due to logging work on-going in that area.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR. CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that Jackie Dauzat of South Lake Tahoe caught a 5 pound rainbow on rainbow Power Worms. In addition, brothers Justin, Jacob, Jayden and Jarrod Wingfield of Carson City caught a 4 pound rainbow and other smaller trout on green Power Bait.

KIRMAN (AKA CARMEN) LAKE, CALIF: Rick Giser reported that fishing has been OK. Most guys are getting 2-3 fish and the brookies are running 17-18 inches in length.

Note: This lake is about a 2 mile hike from the Sonora Pass Highway (S. R. 108).

KNOTT CREEK RESERVOIR, NEV: The 2005 season will open on June 11.

LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV: Shirley at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750) reported: "We had huge crowds all weekend. We "guesstimate" that there were about 25,000 people out here. They were catching fish, randomly, all over the place. Beach NO. 10 was good for Walleye. One guy caught two over 5 pounds each. There was a 6 pound Walleye caught at Beach No. 5. The Walleye were being caught on minnows and there were even some caught on worms.

ONION VALLEY RESERVOIR, NEV: The 2005 season will open on June 11.

RED LAKE CALIF: Dave Kirby reported this is the "Hot Spot" of the area. Limits of brookies and cutthroat trout. The lake still has some ice on it. The fish are being caught from shore with worms.

SACRAMENTO RIVER, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing, Redding, Calif. (800-670-4448) reported:

Redding to Anderson: Water flows will be at 12,900 CFS.

Fly fishing for rainbow trout is great.

Catching and releasing a lot of rainbows, 2-6 pounds prior to release.

Using No. 14 or No. 16 Pheasant tail flies.

Micro May Fly patterns were working well.

Great bug hatch now.

Weather outlook is great this week.

SHASTA LAKE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero reported catching nice King Salmon (2-6 pounds). Fishing is good. 80+ feet deep, trolling with Shad pattern lures.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "We've been catching our Mackinaw trout early in the morning and tagging and releasing the smaller ones. We're catching nice fish but nothing super big.

I am trolling the deep-water area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): "Cal Nevada Point and Agate Bay have been the best place. The bite is excellent, early in the morning.

We are trolling for Macks with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at depths of 130-300 feet, along the edges of the drop-offs."

LAKE TAHOE - South Shore: Gene St. Denis: "Fishing has been slow to very good, dependent on the day.

Best places have been Ski Run Shelf and Camp Richardson Shelf.

We are trolling 130-300 feet deep with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows."

LAKE TAHOE - East Shore: Gene St. Denis: "Fishing is slow.

We are trolling silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at a depth of 170-280 feet.

Working the Cave Rock Shelf and off Skyland Point for Macks. Most are 2-5 pounds.

Toplining has also been very poor to good, dependent on the day, for mostly small Mackinaw and a few rainbows.

The Topliners are trolling in 10-20 feet of water with silver/black, No. 11 Rapala lures or No. 9 Count Down Rapala lures."

TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields at the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550) reported the weather was miserable for most of the weekend. They caught a few from the north shore but the wind really blew. There weren't even any water skiers on the lake. Yesterday was the best day but most of the people had already left for home. Today (Tuesday), everyone is gone and the weather is beautiful.

TWIN LAKES, CALIF:

Upper Twin Lake: Annett's Mono Village (760-932-7071) (Ask for the boat house) reported: A 5-pound, 5-ounce rainbow on a nightcrawler and a 4 pound rainbow on rainbow Power Bait. Stringers of pan-sized trout being caught from shore using Power Bait and nightcrawlers.

In addition, Marv Garrett of Douglas County reported catching a nice trout.

Lower Twin Lake: Steve Marti at the Twin Lake Resort at (760) 932-7751: Lower Twin was hot early in the week! Lots of large rainbows with planters rounding out limits. Float tubers did best with No. 8 and 10 olive Woolly Bugger flies. Bait of choice was Power Bait or Nitro with nightcrawlers (that's a cheese and meat combo). Best lures were brass/red or brown trout Needlefish.

Robinson Creek: Steve Marti said: Fair. Lures and eggs were best but it is challenging because the water is high and all of the streams are moving at a dangerous clip.

VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF: Rick Giser reported the ice is just going out on that area's lakes. On Sunday, a 2.5 pound rainbow was caught at Trumbull Lake, but there is not much open water there.

WALKER RIVERS, CALIF: Rick Giser reported:

East Walker: It is down to 646 CFS and is very fishable. The fishing has been decent for fly fishermen using Midges.

West Walker: It is over 3,000 CFS and very high and very muddy.

Little Walker: Very high and very muddy.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Dennis Dunn at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472 said, "I am feeling good now and getting better every day. We had another good rainstorm the other day that chased all of the fishermen from the lake into our bar. They are catching lots of rainbows, bass and catfish, but nothing big. The runoff is just about over and the lake is clearing up."
