Increase Organ donor awareness this weekend
Gov. Kenny Guinn proclaimed today through Sunday as National Donor Sabbath in Nevada.
This is the 10th anniversary of National Donor Sabbath, a time when faith communities across the nation work to increase awareness about organ and tissue transplantation.
Since 1996, faith communities throughout the nation have observed National Donor Sabbath. This year marks the 10th anniversary of National Donor Sabbath, which will be observed across the county as an opportunity to discuss and increase the awareness with their families of the critical need for donations.
Approximately 90,000 men, women and children in the Untied States are in need of a lifesaving organ transplant, and the need for organs still far exceeds the number donated.
The Nevada Organ and Tissue Donation Task Force, which is comprised of a coalition of people from several organizations, health care professionals, and members of the community, is dedicated and committed to educating and informing the public about the importance of organ donation.
