Two Hispanic males were removed by Care Flight following a single-car rollover accident on Goni Road Thursday night.

The accident occurred at 10:15 p.m. in the 5400 block of Goni Road when a passenger vehicle traveling northbound veered onto the left shoulder and the front end of the vehicle hit a raised driveway.

The vehicle then rolled end-over-end three or four times for about 200 feet before coming to rest upside down on the roadway, according to Carson City Sheriff's Deputy Bill Richards.

The engine of the vehicle caught fire, igniting sagebrush on the side of the road, which was put out by several neighbors who heard the crash.

Adolfo Rodriguez, 27, and Alfonso Cuevas-Ramos, 22, were extracted from the car by members of the Carson City Fire Department and transported to Washoe Medical Center.

"I heard it when it hit, and it was only a split second before the big thud. I thought the one guy was dead 'cause he wasn't moving when we got the fire out, but he finally came to," said Michel Barrette, a resident of the area who helped put out the fire.

Dan Grayhill, who also came to the aid of the passengers, said, "The sagebrush was on fire and the area under the hood was on fire, but we got it put out with fire extinguishers."

Richards estimates the vehicle was traveling in excess of 80 mph, and alcohol is being considered as a factor in the accident.

The conditions of Rodriguez and Cuevas-Ramos had not been released as of press time.
