A 26-year-old man charged with armed robbery in connection with last week's holdup of a Minden bank branch is to appear in East Fork Justice Court today.
On Monday, Judge Jim EnEarl appointed the Roeser law firm to represent Steven John Simmons of Mammoth Lakes, Calif.
Simmons is charged with robbery using a deadly weapon and is in Douglas County Jail on $250,000 cash-only bail.
He told EnEarl he earns $19 an hour building and cutting half-pipes at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area. He said in the summer he is employed as a finish carpenter.
Simmons was arrested Nov. 22, less than an hour after a man dressed in black, wearing a ski mask and carrying a loaded Glock handgun, robbed the Minden branch of Bank of America.
Simmons was arrested hiding in a dog crate at a home on Belarra Drive in the Mackland subdivision.
He was tracked to the residence by two patrol dogs.
Officials have not disclosed how much money was taken or how much was recovered.
One of the dogs found a backpack in the area that contained the suspect's clothing, weapon and cash from the robbery.
