A list of 99 capital improvement projects Carson City officials say are necessary and either underway or planned between now and 2010, will be reviewed today by city supervisors.
City Manager Linda Ritter said the total cost of those projects is estimated at $107.1 million. Nearly half the total number of projects and more than half the money is dedicated to sewer, water and storm drainage improvements.
Ritter said the list is intended to make the board aware of the full scope of city CIP needs over the next five years, from multi-million dollar improvements to the sewer system to minor projects such as construction of sidewalks at Lone Mountain Cemetery.
"It's everything we need to do through 2010 - that we know of," she said.
The list includes more than $22 million in water system projects, $29.3 million plus in sewer projects and another $4.1 million in joint water-sewer and planning projects.
The largest single project on the list is the $14 million expansion of the Wastewater Treatment Plant scheduled to begin in 2006. The improvements are required to meet standards under the federal Safe Drinking Water Act.
With $6.25 million in storm drainage system projects added on, water-sewer issues account for nearly $62 million of the total.
Another $21.5 million will be required for building construction and expansion projects. The largest of those is the new $12 million Sheriff's Department Administration building approved by Supervisors two weeks ago. The Health Services Building, to be purchased for Carson-Tahoe Hospital, is on the list for 2006 and will cost $5 million. The community gymnasium planned for 2007 costs another $3.5 million.
In addition, there are several projects from installation of traffic signals to utility relocation work made necessary by the Carson freeway and a number of rehabilitation projects made necessary by the Waterfall fire. After that, most of the remaining items are street expansion/reconstruction or parks projects.
