Carson High School students are putting on a Community Awareness Fair focusing on driver awareness as well as drug prevention on Saturday.

There will be games and interactive activities throughout the day, free food and drinks, a Battle of the Bands and a run for safety. There are games for kids as well as adults. With the fun comes learning valuable life lessons.

Organizations including the Fire Department, the Sheriff's Office, Nevada Highway Patrol, Stand Tall Don't Fall, CCOY (Community Council on Youth), WNCC (Western Nevada Community College), Boys & Girls Club, Ron Wood Center, Kiwanis, Fun Jumpers, State Farm and others are supporting the event. The jog/run is from 8-10 a.m. and the Battle of the Bands is from noon-3 p.m. For information, call 283-1652.

Safe Halloween Party scheduled for Oct. 30 and 31

United Blood Services will host its annual Safe Halloween Party with arts and crafts, treats, a costume contest and more from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 30 and 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Oct. 31.

United Blood Services welcomes little ghosts and goblins. To schedule an appointment to donate blood, call 887-9111. United Blood Services is at 256 E. Winnie Lane.

Family to Family classes offered

Family to Family is offering the Active Parenting Class for Parents with children ages 1-4. The classes are scheduled Tuesdays, Nov. 1, 8 and 15 from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

Active Parenting teaches parents discipline methods that work, how to prevent tantrums, how to make rules children will follow and how to enjoy children. This class will be held in the Ron Wood Family Resource Center at 212 E. Winnie Lane, Call 884-2269 to register.

Teri Vance 10/13/05 Halloween Carnival at Virginia City Middle School

Students, parents and teachers of Virginia City Middle School are hosting the eighth annual Halloween carnival from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. Oct. 27 at the school. The carnival, a safe and sane Halloween celebration for children of all ages, includes a haunted house, games and prizes.

But help is needed. A game booth can be sponsored for $40 and donations, like dinner, a hotel stay or cabaret show, are needed. Donations are tax-deductible. The names of the supporter sponsoring the events will be displayed.

This year's money will be placed in the student activity fund, and also be used for instructional and educational needs at the middle school. Please call Katie Swafford at 847-0980.

Youth-drawn Christmas cards available

The Community Council on Youth is still accepting orders for its 2005 Christmas cards. The cover is a picture of the Capitol at Christmas, drawn by Majesta, a second-grader at Seeliger Elementary School.
