Flu shot, diabetes education at C-TH

Carson-Tahoe Hospital is offering the following:

• Flu shots will be available to high-risk individuals from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at the Dayton Medical Center and noon-4 p.m. Monday at the Carson Mall and noon-4 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Minden Medical Center. For information, call 886-7402.

• Celebrities Caring for Cancer Fundraiser from 5-10 p.m. Monday at Glen Eagles Restaurant. Local celebrities will greet guests, serve dinners, and make drinks. One hundred percent of the tips, raffles and auction proceeds will benefit the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. Walk-ins are welcome. For information, call 885-4640 or for reservations, call 884-4414.

• Bariatric Surgery Support Group from 5:30-7 p.m. Oct. 18 in the Carson-Tahoe Hospital Summit Room. Call 885-4308 for information.

• Diabetes Fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Carson Mall. The free fair will feature blood pressure checks, blood glucose testing, foot screenings, flu shots (for $20, staff will bill Medicare) and more. Call 885-4506 for information.

• Diabetes Education Class for Spanish-speaking adults, 6-10 p.m. Nov. 29 and 30 at the Carson-Tahoe Community Wellness Center, 1122 S. Stewart St. A free box dinner will be served to the participant and one guest. A physician's referral is required. For information, call 885-4506.

Whistlin' Billy piping up at railroad museum

"The Legend of Whistlin' Billy" is the first in a series of children's storytime adventures featuring Nevada's own literary locomotive, Whistlin' Billy, beginning Saturday at the Nevada State Railroad Museum.

Storytime sessions are 10:30 a.m.-noon and 1-2:30 p.m. Each session is limited to 20 children. Reservations are required by Friday by calling 687-6953 or at NevadaCulture.org. Cost is $6.50 per child.

Jewish community holds services

Temple Bat Yam, serving the Jewish community of Carson City, Dayton and Carson Valley. Services holds monthly services at Sierra Crest Academy in Minden. Join the congregation for holiday celebrations and year-round family activities.

Join the animals at Harvest Festival

See the bears, tigers, wolves and all of the other animals at Animal Ark Wildlife Sanctuary and Nature Center receive Harvest Festival treats from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.

Every 30 minutes to one hour, food will be delivered to the different enclosures by the keepers.

Animal Ark is a wildlife sanctuary for more than 35 non-releasable animals.

Most are North American predators (although there are a snow leopard, cheetah, and tiger), that cannot be returned to the wild.

The center is north of downtown Reno. Admission is $6 - adults, $4 - children.

Seminar for dementia caregivers Thursday
