Carson youth football teams dominant again

The Carson Junior Pee Wee Silver Pop Warner football team improved to 5-0 on Friday with a 33-6 win over the Ren Terrapins.

The only score for the Terrapins came on third quarter's opening kickoff return. Matt Nolan led Carson with 148 yards passing with three touchdown passes.

Henry Huffman also had a huge game, finishing with 200 yards of total offense and four touchdowns, two on runs and two on receptions. Logan Krupp scored the other touchdown on a 4-yard catch. The lineman of Cory Wilson, Andrew Cooper, Cameron Arnold, Jay Milligan, Daniel Bacon, Daniel Bridges, Robby Easton, Caden Mitchell, and Erich Slabaugh paved the way.

Others who played well for Carson were Jose Galindo, Sam Blei, Dalton Butler, Nevin Elliott, D.J. Parker, and Andrew Gutterrez.

Among those who played well defensively were Willy McDonald, Alex Donner, Gunnar Harper, Sage Smith, Zachery Kind and Mikel Hafeman. Smith led the team in tackles and McDonald's third quarter interception helped turn the momentum of the game.

Others who played well defensively were Brandon Akers, Tommie Champion, Austin Kiesow, Kurtis Scull, Jason Milligan, Ricky Streight, Dustin Garza, Nathan White and Rodney Calhoun.

Two players, Anthony Gonzales and Christopher Lopez, were sidelined due to injuries. Carson next plays the Dougas Tigers at 8 p.m. Friday at Governor's Field.

SILVER MIGHTY MITES WIN

The Carson Silver Mighty Mites won their home opener, 34-12 over the South Tahoe Vikings.

Carson was led by its offensive line of Brandon Davidson, Logan Menzel, Jaconn Rodriguez, Kye Catlin, Adam Kilgor and Kenny Franks. Chance Banta scored on runs of 34, 15, 18 and 52 yards.

Banta has now scored 15 touchdowns in five games. Carson's other touchdown came on Tristan Bakkendahl's 42-yard scoring run.

The defense was led by Nolan Shine, Cameron Price, Cyle Schaefer, Johnny Cavilia, Elijah Taylor and Cole Catlin.

"I'm very proud of you guys this is the first time all year we played hard from start to finish," Coach Jim Cavilia told his team after the game.

Carson next faces its biggest test of the year as it will host the Douglas Black Tigers at 6 p.m. Friday at Governor's Field.

PEE WEES WIN

The Carson Senator Pee Wees posted their third straight shutout with a 30-0 win over the Reno Panthers. It was the Senators' fourth shutout in five games.

The Senators defense was led by Shea Bondi, Austin Brown, Patrick Craugh, Cole Dufresne, Matt Galvin, Jaylin Haywood, Patrick Hesse, Russel Jones, Edward Meza, Austin Pacheco, Clinton Page, Chris Paras, Logan Peternell, Gabriel Pongasi, Chance Quilling, Dylan Sawyers, Zach White and Joe Zinda.

Pongasi had a fumble recovering and two interceptions, returning one pick 68 yards for a touchdown. Bondi had an interception and Zinda recovered a fumble as well.

"I can't say enough about these kids," defensive coach Junior Lopez said. "They were tenacious. I asked them to improve each week and they have. I can't ask for more than that."

Sawyers took the opening kickoff and returned it 65 yards for a score. On Carson's first offensive possession, Bondi scored on a 20-yard run and Pacheco added the PAT to make it 14-0 in the first quarter. Sawyers scored again to give Carson a 30-0 halftime lead.

"Our offensive line consisting of Keegan Aiazzi, Bondi, John Borges, Levi Carter, Keith Collier, Alex Crathers, Nick Garcia, Rafe King, Chris Johnson, Nate Landes, Jake Myers, Logan Peternell, Pongasi and Andrew Toland did a great job blocking and controlling the line of scrimmage," offensive line coach Chris Taylor said. "They opened up holes big enough for me to run through."

Senator quarterbacks Sean Cutunilli and Quilling ran the attack. Haywood, Pacheco, Quilling, Sawyers, Zinda, Aiazzi, Brown Hesse, Landes, Myers, Peternell and White all received the chance to run the ball.

Carson will face one of its toughest test of the year while it next plays the Douglas Tigers at 6 p.m. Friday at Stodick Park.
