A 16-year-old Carson City boy was back home Monday after being shot in the chest by an unknown gunman at a party Saturday night.

Alonso Rangel, 16, was released from Washoe Medical Center on Sunday after being treated for a gunshot in the upper right chest. He was hit when someone pulled out a handgun and fire three rounds during an argument in the parking lot of a dance hall in the 1700 block of North Carson Street, Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Bob White said.

The fight is believed to have been sparked between rival gang members from Carson City and Reno, said Detective Brian Humphrey.

Alonso was taken by friends to Carson-Tahoe Hospital and then by Care Flight helicopter to Washoe Medical Center in Reno.

Investigators haven't determined who is responsible for the shooting, White said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Carson City Sheriff's Department detective division at 877-2020 ext. 1400.
