Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson will formally announce his candidacy for Nevada governor at a series of press conferences Thursday.
Gibson will be the fifth candidate and second Democrat in the race to replace Gov. Kenny Guinn
Sen. Dina Titus, minority leader of the Nevada Senate, is the other Democrat running.
There are three Republican candidates - state Sen. Bob Beers of Las Vegas, U.S. Rep. Jim Gibbons and Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt.
Gibson is in his third term as Henderson mayor.
He will begin Thursday's tour of the state by announcing his candidacy in Elko's Great Basin College Solarium at 7:30 a.m. He will announce his plans to western Nevadans at Wingfield Park in Reno at 11:30 a.m. then fly to Las Vegas to complete the tour on the berm above Henderson Pavilion at 4 p.m.
Gibson is a fifth-generation Nevadan whose family founded one of the Las Vegas Valley's earliest industrial complexes producing magnesium and rocket fuel for the military.
