MOUND HOUSE - Officials are trying identify a woman killed in a rollover accident sometime Wednesday night or early Thursday morning a mile north of Highway 50 East on State Route 341 in Mound House.
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Todd Hartline said a motorist spotted the wreckage of the 1988 Nissan Sentra just before 2 p.m. Thursday. When Lyon County deputies and fire personnel arrived, they discovered the woman's body about 20 feet from the vehicle which was resting on its driver's side on a dirt road just off the highway. The woman had no identification with her and the vehicle was registered to a man in Virginia City. License plates found inside the car are registered to a woman in her 20s from Virginia City.
No one has reported anyone missing who matches the woman's description, Hartline said.
A Nevada Department of Transportation worker said he saw the vehicle about 5:30 a.m., but assumed it was part of a collection of old vehicles on the property.
Though a light rain erased much of the marks that could help investigators determine what happened, Clark said it appears the woman was southbound, drifted off the left soft shoulder and overcorrected.
The vehicle came to a rest about 100 feet off the roadway on a dirt road above a dome house.
"The car overturned multiple times and the driver was ejected because she was not wearing her seat belt. She sustained a massive head injury," Hartline said.
Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who has any information is asked to call the Nevada Highway Patrol at 688-2500.
