Former Nevada Assemblywoman Dawn Gibbons will be joining a group of volunteers delivering supplies to victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The group will leave Las Vegas on Thursday. She said after the supplies are delivered, the vans will be used to help transport victims to other locations.

The trip was organized by Spread The Word - Kids for Kids. The group expects to be gone up to two weeks, during which Gibbons said she is putting her campaign for the congressional seat now held by her husband, Jim, on hold.

"I am sure that the events that I had planned to attend can be rescheduled to a later date," she said. "The help needed by hurricane victims is needed now and can't be pushed back."

Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., is vacating the seat to run for governor.
