Everett James 'Ed' LaPierre

Everett James "Ed" LaPierre, 83, a Yerington resident for the past 20 years, died Sept. 5, 2005, at the South Lyon Medical Center in Yerington. He was born Dec. 8, 1921, in Canton, N.Y., to Frank and Mabel Zimmerman LaPierre.

He married Linda LaPierre on June 13, 1977, in Las Vegas.

Mr. LaPierre spent 30 years in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a chief master sergeant on Sept. 1, 1975. He also served in the Korean Conflict and completed two tours in Vietnam.

He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking the desert, climbing mountains, fishing and canoeing. He was a certified scuba diver. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association.

He was preceded in death by brothers Frank of Virginia and Bernard of New Jersey and son Robert of Las Vegas.

Among his survivors are his wife of Yerington; son and daughter-in-law, Pete and Jane of Ashland, Ore.; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Tim Hines of Yerington; sister, Keitha Goodsen, of Central Square, N.Y.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or any veterans association.

Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
