Sunday is the Sertoma Oktoberfest all day in Minden. I lived in Munich ("München" to Germans) for a couple of years and usually tried to avoid the mobs at that Oktoberfest. I once decided to give it a try and, honestly, I found the beer no better than at my local bierstube.
Maybe I just couldn't get in the mood, since my musical tastes ran more to Dave Brubeck in those days.
Well, maybe it's time to try again, this time at the Minden Park to the music with Al Gruber and The Bavarian Band. Wonder if they serve blutwurst?
Comma Coffee music
Friday at 8 p.m. Forever North and Alldaydrive - acoustic Emo straight out of Carson - play at Comma.
Fun music.
Then Saturday at 8 p.m., it's Kung Fu Sophie. This little lady packs a wallop. Opening for her is Ordinary, and they are anything but.
Season ender
Closing out the Carson City Summer Concert series at Adele's Restaurant & Lounge, Dan Hicks' jazzy phrasing and his fine vocals, along with his band, hit the right note Wednesday at the three-part series in the parking lot behind the bistro. A great show in a great program series. Redux next summer?
On stage still
Don't forget that very funny comedy on the stage at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St., this weekend. The Proscenium players do "The Foreigner" up fine. They should; several of those involved were in the show years ago.
On Friday and Saturday, the show starts at 8 p.m. and at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Still dancing
Yep, Saturday and Sunday, it's the 85th annual Genoa Candy Dance Arts and Crafts Faire, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in friendly downtown Genoa. Call 782Ð8696 if you need help to finding it. There's also the great old Genoa bar in town with more stuff on the walls than most antique shops.
Another great oldie
Alfred Hitchcock made a lot of fine thrillers, but rarely is he associated with comedy. To get an idea of his gallows humor, find "The Trouble With Harry," a 1955 release that was only Hitchcock's second comedy.
This was Shirley MacLaine's debut in films and she comes across as a delightfully dippy pixie-mom. Edmund Gwen costars, along with some wonderful New England fall scenery in glowing color.
