What Up? art show opens Thursday at Courthouse Gallery

Capital City Arts Initiative launches its 2005-2006 exhibition season with What Up?, an exhibition of work by some of Northern Nevada's most exciting young artists at the Courthouse Gallery.

The exhibition opens with a reception for the artists from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Carson City Courthouse Gallery, 885 E. Musser St. Admission is free and the public is invited. The exhibition will remain at the Courthouse Gallery through Dec. 15.

The Mammovan will be in Mound House from 7:45 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Friday at the Second Hand Rose, 10128 Highway 50 East in Mound House. The event is sponsored by the Mound House Business Association.

Gardnerville to celebrate Old Town Days

Old Town Days will return to Gardnerville Friday through Oct. 2 in Heritage Park. Experience Civil War living history camps and see how the Confederate and the Union soldiers survived during the 1860s. Other weekend festivities include an Antique and Craft Marketplace featuring sterling silver jewelry, pottery, novelty clocks, belt buckles, coins, crochet and knitted items, aromatherapy and more. Roasted pig, Indian Tacos, assorted beverages and ice cream are just a few of the food and beverages available for purchase.

See a re-enactment of the American Civil War on Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. on Saturday and 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

A live Antique Auction will be held both days at 11 a.m. Saturday afternoon starting at 4:00 p.m. David John and the Comstock Cowboys will perform at 4 p.m. Saturday. At 7 p.m., a Civil War Ball/Dance will be held at Sharkey's Casino and is free.

Sunday activities kick off with a Teddy Bear Drop at 8 a.m. sharp. Bears will be dropped from a hot air balloon onto a target in Heritage Park. A non-denominational 1860s Church Service follows the bear drop. A high noon a Ladies Tea will be held at the Union Camp - Lady Confederates are welcome.

Coal-fired power plant topic of Audubon meeting

The Lahontan Audubon Society will host Jon Wellinghoff, representing the Nevada Clean Energy Coalition on Tuesday. Social hour is at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting at 7 p.m. The meeting will be at the South Valleys Library, 15650A Wedge Parkway, off of Mount Rose Highway.

Wellinghoff, representing the Nevada Clean Energy Coalition, will present a slide show addressing issues surrounding the Sempra Coal-Fired Power Plant proposed to be built near Gerlach.
