The Carson-Douglas Rodeo club competed at the Fallon High School Rodeo over the weekend, with three athletes placing in the top 10 of their events.

Alyce Kugler won the girls' cutting during the Sunday rodeo and tied for sixth in Saturday's events.

Elise Heberger took seventh in the breakaway and ninth in goat tying Saturday.

Jonathan Glocknitzer took third in the cutting competition Saturday and second in the same event Sunday.

The club, which draws participants from Carson area high schools, Galena and Douglas and is not part of a school-sanctioned sport, will host a rodeo this weekend at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

More than 250 entries from about 15 clubs from around the state are expected.

"The planning is coming along great," rodeo director Sue Coffey said. "The support from our communities has been fabulous.

"We are grateful for all the help and support we have received."

Coffey said the Park Ranch, Jessica Ledbetter and Russell Scossa donated the hay needed for the stock and Johnny Raper at the Corley Ranch has been helpful in putting on the cutting events.

The Settelmeyer Ranch donated all the cattled needed for cutting, saving the club the cost of having to rent the cattle for nearly $2,000.

She also said club president Cindy Wendell has been unbelievably committed to getting the rodeo set to go.

"She was in a rollover accident last week and broke her ankle in three places," Coffee said. "She had surgery Tuesday and was back in doing rodeo entries by Wednesday. It was amazing."

Cutting starts today at the Corley Ranch at 2 p.m.

Events start at the Douglas County Fairgrounds at 9 a.m. and again at 8 a.m. Sunday.

Admission is free.

"The kids voted on it and they thought that since our communities had been so generous in donating to this that we wanted to make admission free," Coffee said. "We really want to encourage people to come out and bring their families, root for the home team and enjoy the rodeo."
