Genoans welcome pilot home

Family and friends of Genoa resident Dan Walters gathered to welcome him home from Afghanistan on April 6.

A Chinook helicopter pilot, Walters serves in Company D, of the 113th Aviation Regiment which returned from Afghanistan in March and was back in Nevada around St. Patrick's Day.

Walters, a chief warrant officer, is a 1984 graduate of Douglas High School.

He is married to the former Sheri Giovacchini and they have one daughter, 4-year-old Shaylynn.

He showed a computer presentation, which included photographs and video of his unit in action, put together by himself and two other guardsmen.

Walters joined the National Guard while he was still in high school.

He served with the Yerington Guard unit as a scout before going to helicopter school.
