The Douglas softball team capitalized on some Hug fielding mistakes, some heady baserunning and some timely hitting while cruising to a 10-0 win over Hug Tuesday.
Mitzi Olsen struck out four and walked two in pitching the five-inning shutout as she improved to 7-3 on the year.
Jolie Kizer led the way at the plate going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Morgan Barone added two RBIs, Felicia Imelli doubled and drove in a run and Angella Stephenson had an RBI as well. Keri Villalobos, Imelli and Tisha Luken each stole a base.
Douglas broke the game open in the second inning with five runs.
Skyler Zulian reached on a one-out error, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored with two outs after Villalobos reached on an error. Barone then drove Villalobos in with a single and scored on a passed ball after Imelli walked.
Lauren Hoppe then reached on an error and Kizer singled to score Imelli. Hoppe later scored on a throwing error before Hug was able to close out the inning.
Douglas added three runs in the third, helped in large part by five walks in the inning.
Barone walked with one out in the fifth and Imelli doubled to right, moving Barone to third.
A walk to Hoppe loaded the bases and Kizer laid down a bunt that scored Barone to end the game by the 10-run mercy rule.
Douglas improved to 10-6-1 overall and 9-4 in Sierra League play with the win.
