One person is confirmed dead in a 9:25 p.m. Monday house fire at 1191 Manhattan Way in the Gardnerville Ranchos.

Sgt. Tom Mezzetta of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said the identity of the victim was not being released.

"Neighbors reported hearing an explosion," he said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the East Fork Fire and Paramedic Districts and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

"The deceased was the only subject in the home," Mezzetta said. "The home was the only structure damaged by the explosion and subsequent fire. No fire personnel were injured fighting the fire."

The East Fork Fire & Paramedic Districts are inviting fire departments from across the state to participate in Friday's memorial service in Minden for State Sen. Lawrence Jacobsen.

Jacobsen died July 26 at his residence. He was 85.

Jacobsen was a member of the volunteer fire department for more than 50 years and worked for passage of legislation on behalf of firefighters and emergency personnel during his four decades in the Nevada Legislature.

The service is set for 10 a.m. Friday at Minden Park at the corner of Sixth Street and Esmeralda Avenue in Minden.
