Carson Valley artist and member of the East Fork Gallery Co-op, Jo Linda Smith offered a quick lesson in painting on tiles at the monthly gallery meeting.
At 1 p.m. on Aug. 12, Smith will demonstrate tile painting at the East Fork Gallery located at 1503 Highway 395, in Gardnerville.
At the gallery meeting, eight local artists sat down with Smith and received pointers and a demonstration of techniques used to china paint designs on tiles. When each artist completes their design, Smith will gather them up and complete the process by firing the individual tiles in her kiln.
Smith has spent 27 years doing china painting as a profession. She has spent time teaching the skills as well as being a judge at both the California and Nevada state fairs. Her work may be seen all over Northern Nevada and California including a mural done in tile which is at Lake Tahoe.
The finished pieces of art created by the East Fork artists will be included in a gallery fundraiser and will be for sale at reduced prices during the Second Saturday gallery event on Aug. 12. The gallery is opened daily from 10 to 5. Smith will share her technique for overglaze painting on porcelain tiles during a reception, starting at 1 p.m. Light refreshments will be served and the public is invited. Details, 782-7629.
