Minden will be a busy place today as the annual Hot August Nights Poker Run visits Minden Park 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Streets from Esmeralda Avenue to Fourth Street will be closed to traffic for the event.

Nevada Joe's will be donating the proceeds from the sale of specialty coffee drinks and smoothies purchased today to the families of Alex Haas and Tim Coleman.

The two teens were killed at Lake Tahoe sometime on the weekend of July 21.

The National Weather Service is predicting isolated rain showers this morning with a 10 percent chance of precipitation. The high temperature in MInden is predicted to hit 88 degrees.

On Wednesday, the Morning Report said Genoa Town Manager Tom Peters resigned his post effective Aug. 15.

Peters did indeed turn in a letter of resignation and told members of the Town Board on Tuesday he was leaving.

However, Peters contacted us on Wednesday and said he was going to meet with the Town Board to discuss his resignation.

The upshot is that maybe they can talk him out of quitting, which would save the town from trying to find a third manager in a year and a half. Peters wouldn't say that was a possibility on Wednesday, but if it wasn't, what would be the point of talking?
