A flammable liquid was found poured throughout the home of a Gardnerville Ranchos man killed in a fire 9:30 p.m. Monday.
Robert Irvin Kellogg, 53, was found dead after firefighters extinguished the blaze at 1191 Manhattan Way.
Investigators determined that the fire was intentionally set after a three day probe into the cause of the fire and Kellogg's death.
According to neighbors, there were at least three explosions in the home. Firefighters arriving at the scene were told there was at least one person in a back bedroom, but fire conditions and the damage from explosions prevented firefighters from entering the home.
Kellogg is the owner of the home, according to the Douglas County Assessor's Office. He was positively identified through dental records by the Washoe County Coroner's Office.
"The fire and explosion were directly caused by the pouring of ignitable liquids throughout the home," Fire Investigator Terry Taylor said Friday. "The investigation found no evidence of forcible entry into the home prior to the fire."
East Fork Fire & Paramedic Districts Chief Tod Carlini said the cause of the fire was borne out by the state of the home when firefighters arrived.
"There was just too much fire for this to have been a natural gas type explosion and fire," Carlini said. "We suspected some type of flammable product was present in the residence at the time of the fire."
A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at Spruce and Deseret Dr. in Minden for Kellogg.
Liz Davis, who grew up with Kellogg, said a memorial fund has been set up for his two children.
Anyone wishing to donate may go to any Bank of the West and donate to the Bob Kellogg Memorial Fund, account No. 120016241.
Kellogg is survived by his daughter Jenna of Gray, Tenn., son Robert of Gardnerville and his sister Karen Kellogg of St. George, Utah.
Investigators are still working to determine the exact cause of Kellogg's death.
